The Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 BiTDI is the most powerful version of the firm’s compact SUV so far, and it comes with 236bhp from a bi-turbodiesel engine. Volkswagen has also added a less powerful 177bhp 2.0 TSI to the Tiguan range.
Available to order now and with first deliveries due in November, the Tiguan 2.0 BiTDI has more power than a Golf GTI and accelerates from 0-62mph in 6.5sec. Its top speed is 142mph.
All Tiguan 2.0 BiTDI models will come with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive as standard. Combined fuel economy is 44.1mpg and CO2 emissions are 167g/km.
The twin-turbodiesel uses Selective Catalytic Reduction to inject AdBlue urea solution into the exhaust system to lower nitrous oxide emissions. Stop-start and battery regeneration technology are also standard.
Volkswagen will only offer this new engine option in the top two trims of SEL and R-Line. The SEL version costs £36,450 and the R-Line will set you back £38,640. Volkswagen expects the R-Line to be the most popular of these two models.
SEL trim comes with VW’s Discover Navigation and 8.0in touchscreen, adaptive cruise control and a 12.3in TFT screen in the main dash display. The R-Line gains Race seats trimmed in San Remo microfibre material, Suzuka 20in alloy wheels and an R-Line bodykit with roof spoiler, rear diffuser and larger front air intake.
The 2.0 TSI 180 engine completes the petrol line-up and is offered with six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG transmissions. Four-wheel drive is standard and the 2.0 TSI 180 will cover 0-62mph in 7.7sec.
Emissions for the new petrol engine with the manual and auto gearboxes are identical at 170g/km. The manual transmission has claimed combined fuel economy of 39.8mpg and the DSG provides 38.2mpg.
This petrol engine option is only offered in SEL trim costing £30,540 or as an R-Line from £32,855.
