Vauxhall has announced its powerful BiTurbo diesel will be fitted across the Astra range

Vauxhall has added its 2.0-litre BiTurbo diesel engine to the Vauxhall Astra range. The engine is now offered in the hatchback and Sport Tourer range, two months after its first fitment in the Astra GTC.

The Astra BiTurbo Sports Tourer is the most powerful estate car in its class, according to Vauxhall.

Both the BiTurbo hatch and estate record sub-eight second 0-62mph times and top speeds are “in excess” of 135mph. The engine is claimed to be the most potent diesel engine Vauxhall has ever produced.

The BiTurbo engine uses sequential turbocharging to produce 236lb ft from 1250rpm. Peak power is 187bhp. Emissions are rated at 134g/km for both models, while claimed fuel consumption is 55.4mpg on the combined cycle.

The new models are available to order from tomorrow and first deliveries are scheduled for the end of the year. The hatch is priced from £24,095 with a £1015 premium for the Sports Tourer.
