Electric sports car's new look will build on retro cues of its mid-engined predecessor

Alpine has previewed the design of the next-generation A110 ahead of its 2027 debut with an 'artistic vision' that takes the form of a full-scale sculpture.

The third generation of the brand's flagship sports car will be the first all-electric version and will sit on the advanced new Alpine Performance Platform (APP). Renault's performance brand has previously detailed key elements of that platform and a test mule for the new A110 has made a public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, albeit packaged in the previous car's bodywork.

The new sculpture – which will make its debut at the Paris motor show next month – is designed to evoke the veils that are often used to conceal new models before their public debuts. But it also gives clear clues to the future A110's design, with a sleek, aerodynamic-honed form. It suggests that the model will retain Alpine's signature V-shaped front but gain hexagonal headlights and more sculpted bodywork at the side.

Alpine design chief Antony Villain said the sculpture hinted at how the new A110 took inspiration from nature and the wind, and also from the supersonic Concorde jet, which was co-developed by the British and the French.

He said: "For the third-generation A110, we wanted something that was more dramatic, so we played with Concorde at the moment when it goes supersonic, and used this as an inspiration to create an echo shape that we interpreted on the body sides."

The sculpture is a full-sized representation of the next A110 and highlights that the new model will be essentially the same height as its predecessor. Alpine has already detailed how the APP can accommodate batteries positioned at both the front and rear of the car, as opposed to skateboard-style in the floor, to enable it to sit low to the ground.
