Prices of the all-new Subaru XV will start from £21,295 when it goes on sale next month. Customers can choose between three boxer engines; two petrols and a diesel, which are mated to either a five or six-speed manual gearbox or CVT ‘box for petrol models only.
The entry-level 1.6-litre four cylinder unit produces 112bhp, while the 2.0-litre delivers 148bhp. Both petrol engines come with a stop-start system as standard. The 2.0-litre oil-burner produces 145bhp and 258lb ft of torque, which gives the diesel XV a 0-62mph sprint of 9.3sec. A claimed 50.4mpg on the combined cycle is achievable, while emitting 146g/km Co2.
Trim levels for the Nissan Qashqai rival consist of S, SE and SE Lux Premium, with the entry-level XV S equipped with 17-inch alloys, LED running lights, climate control and Subaru’s Vehicle Dynamics Control. SE trim (which starts from £23,295) adds cruise control, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity and a rear view camera, while the range-topping XV Lux Premium (starting from £28,095) gets keyless entry, a sunroof, leather interior and sat-nav.
The most expensive model in the range – the 2.0D SE Lux Premium – costs £29,995.

If I could get a new stylish Legacy Tourer with the 3.6 litre flat-six from Bell & Colvill, like I did in 2004, then I'd be back like a shot.
As I said, the Spec B was some car, and Bell & Colvill could probably do with the custom now that Saab is no more, no-one buys Subarus and Lotus is suffering from declining sales.
