Special Fiat 500 '1957 Edition' revealed

A limited-run special edition of the Fiat 500 has been launched to celebrate 57 years of the car.

Dubbed the 1957 Edition, the car is powered by the 1.4-litre MultiAir engine and connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. A six-speed automatic transmission is available as an option.

Fiat says the special model is capable of 31mpg in the city and up to 40mpg on the motorway. The 1957 Edition also features a driver-selectable Sport mode, which re-maps the throttle. 

The special 500 features new bodywork to give it a vintage look, with paintwork available in classic colour schemes. Other exterior features include 16-inch wheels with a retro design and large centre caps, a wide chromed lip at the front, alongside sports suspension and performance tyres. Historic Fiat badges can also be seen on the car.

Inside, the 1957 Edition features bespoke leather with new stitching, new interior door panels and a bespoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. The car retains its modern sound system, however. 

Fiat says it has created the car to celebrate its Cinquecento, which was launched in 1957. The car will go on sale in the US in spring next year, with prices being announced closer to its launch date. Fiat has confirmed the model will not be sold in the UK.
