Currently reading: Sat-nav to become standard on all BMW cars

By September 2015, navigation will be a standard feature on every new BMW

A satellite navigation system will come as standard on every new BMW from September 2015, the manufacturer has announced.

Every new BMW on sale from then will come with a 6.5in multimedia system with iDrive and Traffic Message Channel, along with other standard features such as BMW Emergency Call, DAB radio and Bluetooth.

The 2 Series Convertible and 2 Series Active Tourer will both get the equipment upgrade from July, and once the 1 Series and 2 Series Coupé get upgraded in September, every BMW car in the range will have sat-nav as standard.

Professional Navigation will be offered as the next step up from the standard navigation package and adds a larger 8.8in touchscreen with iDrive, as well as real-time traffic information and online features including smartphone integration to allow addresses to be sent from the phone to the car.

The cost of this upgrade has been reduced to £900 for the 1 Series and 2 Series, and £1395 for the 2 Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer, both of which also get a head-up display.
