The 2014 Toyota Corolla has been unveiled. The latest generation of the North American-market hatchback has been “strikingly restyled”, boasting a new look and improved economy.
Toyota describes the Corolla as featuring “chiselled, modern character lines” and “a more premium interior”. Fuel economy has been improved and Toyota says it has placed more emphasis on driving involvement.
The new car features the same 132bhp 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as the current car. The same unit equipped with Toyota’s Valvematic technology adds another 8bhp. Tranmission options include a CVT, a four-speed automatic or a six-speed manual.
Toyota has increased the Corolla’s wheelbase, providing the improved interior with more space. Equipment grades have been improved, with LED headlights, Bluetooth and a touch-screen audio system standard fit.
Although no prices have been announced, Toyota’s US boss Bill Fay was reported as saying they will be set close to the current car’s $18,000 (£11,600).
