Latest spy shots of the second-generation Chevy Cruze

The second-generation Chevrolet Cruze has been spotted undergoing testing on the road, following a series of spy shots revealing the car during winter testing.

Predicted to go on sale in the US in late 2014, this fully disguised Cruze prototype is believed to be the first car to use GM’s new global D2XX platform.

It is thought to underpin a variety of future Chevrolet and Opel/Vauxhall vehicles, including the next-generation Vauxhall Astra and Ampera, as well as a wide range of other models from GM's other brands, that is Buick, Cadillac, Holden and GMC.

Chevrolet has said that the second-generation Cruze will benefit from improved interior space and fuel economy.

Externally the prototype looks longer and sleeker than the current generation. Estate, hatchback and saloon versions are likely to be available, along with a range of updated petrol and diesel engines.

Needs exciting visuals

Here I am hoping it looks better than the current model. Especially in hatchback guise.

Styling...

Chevrolets couldn't look any worse than they do these days, the only exception is the Camaro and Corvette.

Oh great, another car that will expand in size!

Hopefully the other vehicles spun off this architecture won't grow.

Surely they can't make the Astra any larger. It's already one of the biggest cars in its class, although it doesn't benefit from its size in any way.

Benefit in size other than "Vauxhall has put the substantial dimensions of the Astra to good use and created a cabin with space not only to rival the best in its class but also to challenge cars from the class above. " straight from Autocar

The best in its class are the Golf and the Focus, and both are shorter. Also, other publications see the space in a diferent way from Autocar

That website isn't even in English.

And here's some more quotes : Whatcar said of the Astra "There's plenty of space inside, too" and I've already quoted Autocar as "space not only to rival the best in its class but also to challenge cars from the class above"

They said of the Focus "the boot is a bit pokey compared with some rivals'"

The telegraph said of the focus "In the cabin, your immediate reaction is to wonder where all the space went. "

I'll be interested in your statement about the Focus being a class leader, was that from Ford.com.  To finish on, Autocar said of the mk 7 Golf "The all-new Mk7 Volkswagen Golf is bigger" so will you say has NO BENEFITS too or is it just the Astra that has no benefits from being larger?

Oh my. And it has numbers on a chart, and i bet you can't read those either... i mean, if only there was a way to translate pages on the internet with the click of a mouse...

No, it was from the fact that the Focus outsells the Astra in the European market. Ooooh, those pesky numbers and charts again!

Bigger than what? Bigger than the old Golf? It probably is, by a couple of cms here and there. Its still 16cm shorter than the Astra, with better legroom at the back.
