It's been a busy year and many notable models have been launched. We reveal which reviews have proven most popular with readers

It's been a busy year for many manufacturers, with several important models being launched throughout the year.

Jaguar rocked up to the party with its attention-grabbing Jaguar F-Type, BMW took the wraps off its turbocharged M3 and M4, and the new Range Rover Sport proved a revelation.

Porsche's 918 Spyder was also busy setting new standards for performance, while the Mercedes S-class demonstrated just how luxurious cars can be.

The significance of a model, or its outright performance, doesn't necessarily entail it a high ranking in the most popular reviews of 2013. These are instead judged on the number of individual page views.

So, which cars proved most popular for you, our esteemed readership, throughout the year? Find out below.

1. Kia Sportage

As well as being Kia's first venture into the SUV/hatchback crossover market, the Sportage transpired to be a sharply styled, comfortable and practical car. It wasn't particularly engaging to drive but decent kit levels and a seven-year warranty made it a very smart buy.

2. Dacia Duster

Want a rugged, dependable new car for £8,995? You would do well to consider a Dacia Duster. Obviously many other people had come to the same conclusion, as the much-discussed budget spin-off from Renault was the second-most popular Autocar review in 2013.

3. Mercedes-Benz A-class

The first generation of A-class was somewhat of a curiosity, with its upright profile and front-wheel-drive layout. That didn't stop it selling well, but it could never be classified as desirable. The new A-class, however, is a much more appealing machine. No doubt its sporty nature and appearance helps bolster its popularity.

4. Skoda Yeti

Another entry in the top reviews that comes from the burgeoning crossover sector. Skoda's Yeti, however, has proper off-road credentials to match its chunky looks, as well as a practical and comfortable interior. It's good to drive too, and offered with a wide range of powertrains.

5. Volkswagen Golf

The genre-defining model from Volkswagen is still a very heavily trafficked review. If you're in the market for a hatchback you'll probably automatically think Volkswagen Golf, type it into your search engine as a starting point and, voila, another hit on our review.

6. Range Rover Evoque

Range Rover's Evoque is a sharply styled premium SUV that's compact in size, good to drive and affordable. No wonder it's been a popular review on Autocar, then. On looks alone it knocks rivals like the BMW X3 into a cocked hat, but it backs up its style with a substantial dollop of substance too.

7. Volkswagen Tiguan

If you want a well-built, practical and comfortable compact SUV, the Volkswagen Tiguan should be near the top of the list. It was launched in 2008 but a steady stream of revisions, new kit and powertrain options have helped keep it on buyers' radars.

8. Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is effectively responsible for single-handedly creating a new sector in the car market. It blended the desirable attributes of an off-roader - namely the high driving position and rugged attitude - with that of an economical, family friendly hatchback, producing a 'crossover'.

9. Mazda CX-5

Mazda created quite a stir when it revealed its 'SkyActiv' series of technologies, which focussed on weight saving and improvements in efficiency, instead of following the typical engine downsizing route. A powerful, practical and economical car resulted, ideal for families and business users alike.

10. Volkswagen Golf GTI

Fast Golfs have always been popular but they have occasionally dipped into being underpowered, overweight or just not that interesting. The Mk7 still transpired to be a little unexciting, but its sheer breadth of talent and composure confirmed its place as an excellent choice.
