Ford's premium brand, Lincoln, has revealed its new small SUV. The MKC claims to feature a premium interior and is offered with a choice of EcoBoost engines

These are the first pictures of the Lincoln MKC, an SUV targeted at the American market which has debuted at the LA motor show.

Lincoln says the MKC provides the brand an offering in the small premium SUV segment which is the fastest-growing part of the luxury market. It is key to increase Lincoln’s appeal to a younger audience.

The MKC’s styling was previewed in the MKC concept shown at the Detroit motor show in January. Standout design features include Lincoln’s signature “split wing” grille and a wraparound tailgate similar to that fitted to the Audi Q7.

Inside, Lincoln’s design boss says she wanted to “convey a stylish, fashion-oriented vehicle” with extensive use of leather and real wood trim. The audio system features THX surround sound and Lincoln’s version of Ford’s SYNC system.

Two petrol EcoBoost engines are offered: a 240bhp 2.0-litre unit and a 2.3-litre version which makes 275bhp and 300lb ft of torque. Larger-capacity-engined models feature active grille shutters. The MKC is loosely based on the Ford Escape.

The MKC is offered in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations and both are available with adaptive damping.

Lincoln has confirmed production will begin at its plant in Louisville, Kentucky in the second quarter of 2014, with deliveries beginning next summer.
