Volvo is preparing a tarmac-shredding alternative to the forthcoming Audi S3 and BMW 1-series – the S40 R.
With around 300bhp and four-wheel drive, insiders talk of 0-60mph in 6.0sec and a 155mph top speed. The V50 estate will also get the R pack, both sharing the S60 R’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo.
