Vauxhall’s Luton plant has been saved. More than 1000 jobs have been secured at the plant after Opel/Vauxhall announced it would build the next-generation of its Vivaro van there alongside the Renault Trafic.
Production of the new models will begin in 2013. Vauxhall and Renault confirmed they would continue their co-operation on building the next-gen Vivaro/Trafic models in September, but Luton’s future was less secure.
Today’s announcement ensures “Luton will continue to play an important role in the Opel/Vauxhall manufacturing network”, according to an official statement.
The Trafic will also be produced by Renault at its Sandouville plant alongside a H2 high-roof version of the Vivaro.
