Mercedes has tweaked the SLR supercar, giving it more power, revised suspension and an even longer name.
The new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition, to give it its full title, has an uprated version of the SLR’s 5.4-litre V8 that pumps out 641bhp – up 24bhp. That extra power helps slingshot the 722 from rest to 62mph in 3.6sec, 0.2sec faster than before, and on to a new top speed of 209.4mph (337km/h) up from 207.5mph (334km/h).
Helping the 722 cut through the air so quickly are revised aerodynamics, with a modified front splitter and rear diffuser providing better high-speed stability.
The chassis has also been tweaked, with stiffer dampers and a 10mm drop in ride height, while the carbon front brake discs have been increased in size from 370 to 390mm. The wheels have been changed, too, mean-looking six-spoke black alloys replacing the regular silver jet-fin-style items.
Inside, the cabin gets clear-laquered carbonfibre on the dash, leather and Alcantara covered bucket seats and a wheel covered in what Mercedes claims is a grippier type of leather.
The 722 Edition is so called because that was the number carried by Stirling Moss's Mille-Miglia winning SLR in 1955.
