The Volkswagen Eos has become the firm’s first petrol car to receive its Bluemotion technologies eco-makeover.
Bluemotion tech has only previously been available on diesel models, including the Golf and Polo, but VW has now applied some of the technology to the 1.4-litre TSI Eos.
Bluemotion technologies cars stop short of being full Bluemotion models as there are no aerodynamic changes. Instead, the car gets regenerative braking, a stop-start system, a hill hold system and a gearchange indicator.
These changes help reduce the car’s CO2 emissions from 152g/km to 144g/km, which puts it into VED band F, saving £25 per year over the standard car. Combined fuel economy is 45.6mpg.
When mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the engine produces 120bhp and 147lb ft of torque. It can get from 0-62mph in 10.9sec and go on to reach a top speed of 121mph.
The car is available to order now, costing from £20,695.

Hardly seems worth it for such a small saving in co2.
They should have spent the money on a much needed facelift!

Its good to see sensible technology being applied to petrol cars too. I am not sure why a hill hold system helps though. But regenerative breaking and stop start are no brainers. Lets hope these spread to the whole range rather than being eco tweeks though.
