Estoque tipped to be launched to bolster Lamborghini's falling sales

Lamborghini is poised to revise plans to launch a four-door supercar, previewed by the Estoque concept shown at 2008’s Paris motor show.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann told reporters in the US that “a third model would fit Lamborghini very well”, and “a four-door car would be a very feasible approach”.

The Estoque was shelved last year due to the global financial crisis, but it may now be revised to help reverse Lamborghini’s falling sales.

First half sales this year were down 18 per cent on 2009. Winkelmann said a third model would need to provide “a real leap” in sales.

Competition for the Panamera?.

Rapide, Continental and 612, more like. Armed with the 550hp V10 (which actually produces around 600 at the crank), I'd expect to see the Estoque in the same price region as the Gallardo. The Panamera, even in turbo guise, should be a tier below.

They've been considering a third model line for five or six years; given that it's taken them this long to grow the requisite cohones (and brand cachet, to be fair), I think we'll have quite a long wait for a fourth....

This is indeed great news. Even though I don't particularly want one, just knowing such a car exists pleases me. @coolracer, I hope you're right about the Panamera platform being used for a new 928. Perhaps they could use that platform in turn to make a new Lamborghini Jarama, as an 'entry level' Lambo?
