Jaguar Land Rover’s global sales broke half a million in 2016; a year-on-year growth of 13% compared with 2015.
Individually, Land Rover’s sales grew by 8% to 427,122, while Jaguar experienced a 77% boom; rising from 94,449 in 2015 to 148,730 across 2016.
The rise coincides with 2016 being a record-breaking year of UK car registrations, with almost 2.7 million registered, compared with 2.6m in 2015.
Europe made up the largest chunk of sales, with 138,695 cars finding owners and a 26% rise over last year, while Jaguar’s China and North America sales grew by 31% and 25% respectively.
The UK remains Jaguar Land Rover’s most promising market, however; in the UK, we bought 117,571 JLR cars in 2016 and made the year the most successful yet in the company’s history in this country and abroad.
Sales were undoubtedly bolstered by Jaguar’s first offering into the booming SUV market; the Jaguar F-Pace. Jaguar shifted 45,973 across the year, despite Jaguar waiting until the spring to put it on sale.
Proving the strength of the SUV market was also the Land Rover Discovery Sport; Land Rover’s best-selling model of 2016 and occupying the same market as the F-Pace. 122,460 were sold across the year, while the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport made up 200,245 sales between them.
Sales of the Land Rover Discovery trailed off slightly last year, according to Jaguar Land Rover, as the market prepares to welcome the new model later this year.
