Currently reading: Ford GT gallery: Ford's new 216mph supercar lands

£420,000, 647bhp, 216mph, 1000 units - and that's just the road car - these are just some of the hard statistics behind Ford’s most anticipated new model to date

The Ford GT has finally been tested at the capable hands of our reviewers, and has made quite an impression, on both road and track.

The GT was revealed only two years ago, and the first road car wasn't built at Canadian race engineers Multimatic's facility until last December. Yet Ford, through its works-backed Ford Chip Ganassi Racing team, has already won lucrative titles with the GT, including last year's 24 Hours of Le Mans.

That victory came 50 years after the Ford GT40 - the new GT's inspiration - swept the podium at Le Mans the 1966. That was the first of four consecutive wins in the 24-hour race for the GT40.

With only 1000 of the new Ford GT being made at £420,000 each, you'll either want to hurry up and buy one, or start saving now. Second-hand prices are already reported to have rocketed by £170,000 over retail price, so it'll take a fairly large stash of cash to get your hands on the first second-hand UK example.

In the meantime, take a look through our Ford GT gallery, featuring the best shots of the racing and road-going variants of the GT.

The new Ford GT is technically wonderful, brilliant to drive, and to be admired because it’s a £420,000 supercar from the people who usually bring you Fiestas
