Renault Koleos will revive the name for Renault’s 2017 D-segment SUV, which will share a platform with the Nissan X-Trail

We’ve spied the 2017 Renault Koleos testing, long ahead of its arrival in Europe next year.

The Koleos was spotted winter testing near the Arctic Circle alongside a Renault Kadjar, so it’s clear to see the size difference between the two models.

The Renault family face is also visible, with a more grown-up approach to the Kadjar’s front-end styling, with the Renault badge, grille and front lights incorporated into the same full-width strip.

Although it’s not officially confirmed that the Koleos name will be used, the new car replaces the current Koleos, which remains on sale despite poor sales having lead to the car’s withdrawal from the UK market.

The Koleos revives the name of Renault’s previous SUV model, which was sold in the UK between 2008 and 2011. The new Koleos will be first introduced in the Chinese market, before making its European debut in 2017.

Rear styling is harder to distinguish, but a subtle spoiler and rear light clusters similar to those on the Kadjar can be made out.

The Koleos will be built at the Renault plant in Busan, South Korea, where the current Koleos is produced. It’s expected that the Koleos will share a platform with the similarly-sized Nissan Nissan X-Trail.

Prices are not confirmed yet, but it’s likely to closely match its Nissan X-Trail sibling, as the Kadjar follows prices of the Nissan Qashqai. A starting price of £23,000 is likely.

At first glance...

I thought this was some kind of a VW effort. Anyhow it's a step in the right direct for Renault
