BMW's facelifted 3 Series GT has been spied testing ahead of a planned launch next summer, with regular and M Sport variants caught on camera

The facelifted BMW 3 Series GT has been spotted testing in both standard and M Sport guises at the Nürburgring ahead of its planned launch this summer.

BMW has now revealed the 2016 3 Series GT. Click here to read about it.

Cladding at the front and rear of the car shows where the majority of the revisions have been made, with the subtle refresh bringing the styling in line with the rest of the newly revised 3 Series range. The profile of the car is also very similar to that of the X4.

The 3 Series was refreshed in 2015, with new rear bumpers and front-end treatment giving the car a lower and wider appearance, so it’s reasonable to suggest that this will carry over to the 3 Series GT. Although the cladding masks the nature of some tweaks, it's possible to make out the exhausts on either side of the rear of the M Sport variant, while on the standard car the dual-exit exhausts sit together. The M Sport also has much larger alloys than the standard car and a shallower front air intake.

Engine revisions implemented on the 3 Series saloon and Touring will also be carried over, bringing improvements in fuel economy and CO2 emissions. The suspension upgrades that BMW has implemented on the other 3 Series variants in order to sharpen handling are also expected to appear on the facelifted 3 Series GT. The hybrid powertrain of the 330e will not be carried over to the 3 Series GT or the 3 Series Touring, though, with BMW keeping the model exclusively in saloon format.

The 3 Series GT will remain a niche model in the 3 Series line-up, having sold around 3000 units in 2015, compared with around 10,000 3 Series Touring models and more than 20,000 3 Series saloons.

As with the latest 3 Series saloon and Touring, prices for the revised 3 Series GT are likely to rise by about £700 - meaning the range will start from £30,605.

GT hasn't worked.

Not a common sight around these parts but passed '65 plate only yesterday - just like this photo, black with no privicy glass and small plain alloys. Only someone with an interest in cars would have known what it was, to everyone else it could have been a basic KIA or Hyundai. Over £30k? - Jeez. BMW make some fantastic looking cars, the 4 series 5dr coupe being no exception, so how could BMW get their 3 and 5 GT's so wrong?
