New hatch will go on sale in the second half of this year; latest pictures preview its facelifted exterior

Photographers have snapped new images of the upcoming Audi A3 hatchback as it undergoes winter testing.

The updated model looks set to receive a mild facelift when it arrives this summer, bringing its exterior into line with the Mk5 Audi A4 that went on sale in November.

From these latest pictures we can see that the main aesthetic changes include a wider front grille and restyled headlights, while at the back the bumper has also received minor tweaks to its design.

The most significant change to the facelifted A3 is expected to be the optional addition of Audi’s latest Virtual Cockpit technology, which already features on models like the Audi TT, A4 and Audi Q7.

The facelifted hatchback will be joined by Audi saloon and Audi convertible versions of the A3. Although we haven't yet seen the new drop-top, our photographers spotted the saloon testing late last year.
