Land Rover has announced it will continue to sponsor the Race2Recovery rally team as it again enters the Dakar Rally next year.
The team, comprised of injured British and American servicemen and including several amputees, will enter two Defender-based Wildcat rally cars into the event. Land Rover will be providing parts, logistics and financial support in the run up to the race as well as the vehicles themselves.
Race2Recovery will also be training new drivers to take part in the 2014 challenge, with Land Rover again funding the training scheme. As part of the programme, the team will field an entry into the recently announced Defender Challenge.
Race2Recovery became the first disabled team to complete the gruelling Dakar Rally earlier this year, and has secured two places for the 2014 event, which is due to start in Argentina in early January. The race route covers three countries, travelling through Argentina, Bolivia and Chile and features obstacles like the Andes mountain range and Atacama desert.
Founder of Race2Recovery Tony Harris said: "We learnt an awful lot from this year’s race and we will use that to continue providing a platform for ex-servicemen to achieve the extraordinary following injury."
The team is fundraising to support its efforts in the Dakar Rally next year, and donations towards the team can be made here.
