Skoda reveals new CitiJet concept for Worthersee show

Skoda's convertible CitiJet concept will make its world debut at the Volkswagen Wörthersee tuning festival next week.

The sporty two-seater has been created by apprentices at Skoda's design school. Based on the Citigo, the model is finished with blue metallic paint and 16-inch alloy wheels, while a rear spoiler and dual exhaust exits also feature.

Power comes from a 74bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine, the same unit that already appears in the Citigo. In its standard guise, the car is capable of reaching 62mph in 13.9 seconds and has a top speed of 106mph.

Inside, the CitiJet's cabin is based on the Citigo Sport and includes part-leather trim with red and white accents for the dashboard, as well as bespoke floor mats. Other features include an upgraded stereo and an LED lighting system which responds to music.

Skoda's team of 16 apprentices have been working on the concept since November last year and have been given free reign over the design. Skoda board member Bohdan Wojnar said the CitiJet "is an emotional vehicle study that is sure to catch the attention of the visitors at Wörthersee".

The Wörthersee festival is traditionally used as a platform for the unveiling of numerous concept cars from within the VW Group, with this year's event taking place from 28 to 31 May. Highlights from last year's show included Skoda's Rapid Sport concept, as well as VW's Golf Design Vision GTI.
