New e-tron model will be revealed at the Shanghai motor show next week

A new Audi e-tron concept has been previewed ahead of its reveal this coming week at the Shanghai motor show.

The sketches show that the futuristic-looking concept will take the form of a four-door SUV with a coupé-like roofline. The car’s slim lights will likely be LEDs, and the Audi badges themselves are illuminated.

Inside, the car has an evolved version of Audi’s virtual cockpit, with screens for the rear view cameras. There’s space for four passengers and screens on the inside of the rear doors, suggesting the passengers in the back will have their own infotainment.

It’ll be an electrically-powered model – as confirmed by the name – but whether its drivetrain is related to the e-tron quattro concept that was revealed in 2015 is yet to be learned.

That car used a three-motor setup that produced 496bhp and 590lb ft, and was capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 4.6sec. Top speed was 130mph and it was capable of a 311-mile range.

Despite being a concept, this new e-tron could follow suit of the e-tron quattro - which will lend much of its design and technical features to a Q6 e-tron in 2018 - and influence a production model. The new e-tron concept could therefore inspire a sportier version that would, judging by its design, likely rival the Jaguar I-Pace.
