Mitsubishi will unveil an electrified SUV concept with a focus on “next-generation technology” called the Engelberg Tourer at this year’s Geneva motor show.
The new machine has been teased with a single image, showing a darkened silhouette of an SUV-shape machine with a further development of the firm’s ‘Dynamic Shield’ grille and thin blue LED headlights. It also hints at a set of roof-mounted lights.
Update: the Mitsubishi Engleberg Tourer has been revealed at Genva
As well as showcasing new technology, Mitsubishi says the concept will “bring further developments in SUV styling and practicality”. The Engelberg Tourer is named after a Swiss ski resort, hinting that the machine will be off-road-focused.
The Engelberg Tourer will also offer “enhanced EV performance”, according to the Japanese firm, although it isn’t yet clear if it's electric or a hybrid. Mitsubishi has focused its electrified technology on hybrid powertrains, including the ultra-successful Outlander PHEV, although it has also been looking at pure electric machines.
Last year, Vincent Cobee, Mitsubishi's strategy boss, said the brand would add pure electric powertrains to its range, although do so by offering models with multiple powertrains options – battery electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid – rather than electric-only models. Any electric powertrains in Mitsubishi's range would likely draw on those developed by Alliance partners Renault and Nissan.
Mitsubishi previously revealed the eX concept in 2016, a small electric SUV concept that it has been evaluating for production.

Not hard to find
Another Mitsubishi concept,
Another Mitsubishi concept, then! You just never know whether it's going to be incredibly ugly, or really good. The eX was really good looking, so where is it???? Just produce the thing, and worry the hell out of Land Rover!
Please don't release it
Just let it go,
For I never loved it anyway.
Apologies to Mr. Humperdinck.
Engelberg!
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
