The new Biofore Concept, designed to showcase the use of renewable 'biomaterials' in the automotive industry, has been revealed at the Geneva motor show.
Built by students from the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, the concept uses renewable biocomposite and thermoformable wood materials where plastic would conventionally be employed.
This allows the Biofore concept to offer an improved "overall environmental performance", while reputedly not compromising on quality or safety.
It's claimed that the use of recyclable materials also cuts the weight of the Biofore concept by 150kg compared to an equivalent made from conventional materials.
Power comes from a 1.2-litre diesel engine that uses wood-based renewable diesel, further decreasing the environmental impact of the Biofore.
