Scores of British buyers looking to snap up a Ford GT supercar are going to be left disappointed

Scores of British buyers looking to snap up a Ford GT supercar are going to be left disappointed.

According to company sources, the European allocation is massively oversubscribed after potential buyers were invited to register their interest online at www.fordteamrs.com.

At the moment, though, it’s still not decided how many of the 4000 worldwide production run will be making their way across the Atlantic. Originally, only 80 of the 500bhp Ferrari beaters were earmarked to be sold in Europe, but huge interest could lead to that number being increased.

It’s also unclear how potential buyers will be chosen. According to a company spokesperson, ‘it won’t be on a first-come-first-served basis’. This is fuelling speculation that buyers will be chosen in a Ferrari Enzo-style manner, with Ford picking people unlikely to sell cars on quickly at a huge profit.

Whatever happens, the Ford GT is likely to be one of the most sought-after supercars of 2004. As a result, anyone who does decide to sell their’s on quickly is likely to make a massive profit over the estimated £100,000 price tag.
