Currently reading: Next Almera shares Megane’s style

Nissan’s next Almera could have a dash of French flair when it arrives in late 2005, judging by this Tokyo concept called the C-Note.

The show car will remain virtually unchanged when it arrives in Japan next year – and it looks surprisingly similar to partner firm Renault’s Mégane, whose platform it shares, and the Peugeot 307.

However, Japan’s Almera is separate from the Euro model. Product planners haven’t yet decided whether the European car will be a hatchback like the C-Note, or become a crossover along the lines of the Evalia concept shown at Geneva this year.

Senior Nissan design sources have told Autocar that the Evalia was one of the rejected Almera designs, but said that ‘later in the year we will show something closer to the finished car’.

The all-new European Almera will share the Mégane platform architecture and get new direct-injection petrol 1.6 and 1.8-litre engines, as well as a range of carry-over Renault-sourced diesels. An SUV version is also said to be in the pipeline.

The C-Note’s production-ready interior has neat touches, such as long vertical air vents stretching the entire height of the centre console.
