Production of the Peugeot 206 will cease in Europe – after 13 years – at the end of next year, according to company sources.
EU legislation will finally kill it off, but it is likely to continue to be made in South America, China and Iran.

It was first introduced in 1998 as a late replacement for the 205 which the company had initially tried to avoid refreshing as they hoped the 106 and 306 models would fill the market sufficiently.
The 206 went on to become Peugeot’s best selling car, surpassing five million units in 2005 before its replacement – the 207 – was introduced in 2006.
The only other Peugeot to sell that amount was the 205, though this took considerably longer than the eight years the 206 took to achieve that landmark.See all the latest Peugeot 206 reviews, news and video

Re: Peugeot 206 axed after 13 years
This can only be good news. The 206 was between the time of the good handling Peugeots of old (106, 205, 306, even 406) and the later higher interior quality, heavy, safe and refined (but drive like a barge) Peugeots (mainly ending in 7). Therefore, the 206 had all the poor fit and finish of the earlier Peugeots with none of their ride and handling prowess. I had the misfortune of having a 206 rental in Switzerland for a week. Ergonomically, it was designed for an Orangutan and left me with both shoulder (for stretching) and feet (for being too long legged - at 5'10"!!!) pain. The a year later I had a 207 rental - a much more pleasant car to be in and I enjoyed driving it for the week. The 206 - a horrid car which should have been torched many years ago.
Re: Peugeot 206 axed after 13 years
12 years too late!, it was never a true replacement for the 205,and the GTI was a real let down like VW and the mk4 GTI, Peugeot really need a good car at the moment, because what's being good for them just now is the MPV market.
