Currently reading: Twingo finally comes to UK

It might be 10 years too late but a UK Renault dealer has started selling the cute Twingo city car, never officially sold here. Renault London West will sell you an example of the 1.2-litre 16-valve city runabout for £5995. Not a bad price considering the same car will set you back 8750 Euros on the continent, or £5910 with current exchange rates. Though the bad news is that there’s little sway with attempting to get them to shave any money off. A salesman we spoke to claimed that ‘they were cheap enough’ already. The upside is that buying one of the left-hand-drive German-sourced cars gives you the same three-year warranty as a UK-sourced Renault. Stocks are dwindling, though the dealer said it could source more to meet customer demand. Meanwhile British buyers’ hopes of being able to buy a left-hand-drive Lancia Ypsilon (right) have been dashed. Rumours had been circulating that Fiat UK was planning to sell the Italian supermini through its London dealers with an £8000 price tag, but a Fiat spokesman denied that Brit buyers would get a chance to get their hands on an officially imported Ypsilon. ‘Things are always under review but we won’t be selling Ypsilon,’ he said.
