The Impreza 2.5 WRX has been given a final lease of life before the all-new successor hits the showrooms this autumn.Named after Rally GB – Subaru's most successful WRC stage - and the car's 266bhp (270ps) power output, the GB270 will be available in both saloon and station wagon form.Only 400 of these special editions will be produced, 300 saloons and 100 estates, which will go on sale from 10 July this year.The station wagon looks to be the best buy, wearing the same £22,995 sticker price as the saloon model, despite normally costing £1000 more than its booted sibling. Both models receive £7000-worth of free equipment but cost only £2898 and £1898 more than the standard saloon and station wagon respectively.The Prodrive Performance Pack fitted to the GB270 will account for as much as half the cost of the extras included on this special edition. Having run a Prodrive-tuned WRX wagon here at Autocar towers, we reckon that this extra on its own is reason enough put your deposit down.The 18-inch alloys, Momo gearknob, lowered springs and quickshift gearchange are also an added bonus – albeit a slightly brash one, but we weren't expecting subtlety. The GB270 makes even more sense when you consider the forthcoming model will not be available in WRX tune in the UK, but however you like your bodykitted Japanese saloons, if you're an Impreza fan the GB270 is a great buy.
