Chevrolet's hot hatch could come to the UK: 132bhp offered from turbocharged 1.4-litre engine

The Chevrolet Aveo RS could make its way to the UK next year, Autocar has learned.

The 132bhp hot hatch is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine, with transmission options including either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.

Chevrolet has yet to confirm a definitive sale date and price for this country, however, though it is expected to command a significant premium over the £14,055 asked for the top-spec standard Aveo.

Chevrolet has previously said that 2013 would be a likely on-sale date for the model in the UK.

First revealed at the Detroit Motor Show last year, the Aveo RS adds more muscular bodywork, including a unique grille wth new fog lights and extra air intakes, plus a new spoiler at the rear.

The car has proved popular in the US, selling around 16,000 units in its first three months.

The Aveo RS would line up alongside the likes of the Renault Clio RS, Ford Fiesta ST and Peugeot 208 GTi in this country.

It is understood the model has appeared on draft price lists for Chevrolet next year, although the firm says no decision has been taken.

Why not Sonic???

I wish this car was called a Sonic, instead of Aveo, like in the States, thinks it sound much better, and might get noticed more.

I completely disagree. I think it would rival the likes of the Swift Sport, Twingo Renaultsport, Abarth 500, etc.

I've often wondered why

I've often wondered why Chevrolet hasn't attempted to get some kind of tie-in with its ultra-successful WTCC campaign.

It's a handsome car and has dominated a world championship event for the last 4 years... Even just a lightly-modified Cruze would suffice, but Chevrolet have almost just ignored it has even happened! Mind boggling...
