Lister has announced plans to restart production of its Lister 'Knobbly' Jaguar sports car. The car, which gained motorsport fame in the 1950s, is the first car to be be built by the firm in 25 years.
The company says it will supply race-ready cars using Jaguar D-type specification engines and gearboxes, alongside a chassis that will be up to current FIA racing standards. The original cars could cover 0-100mph in 11.2 seconds.
Bodywork based on the original 'knobbly' designs will also be produced.
The original three Lister companies, George Lister Engineering, Brian Lister Light Engineering and Lister Storm, have been combined into a single entity, now known as Lister Motor Company Ltd. The firm will manufacture from a custom-built site in Cambridge. The company says many of its employees who worked on the original project, including Brian Lister, have been called back into service.
Aftermarket warranty provider WarrantyWise has funded the project, and CEO Lawrence Whittaker says "anyone with a fondness for British sports car manufacturing and with an understanding of Lister's remarkable heritage should rightly be excited by this news.
"The Lister 'Knobbly' was a powerful, giant-killing racing car in its heyday, and with all the expertise we have brought together for this project, I can promise that the new Lister will be a fabulously exciting and desirable car."
The company plans to hold a series of historica race meetings in 2015 in time for its 125th anniversary.

I thought Lister was in Red
I thought Lister was in Red Dwarf. Probably aimed at the International historic racing car market, where you need to have a few megabucks.

Another run of say 25 cars, then abruptly close down?, it's never a mass production car,more a toy for the seriously wealthy.
Cost?
Shall we say at around £650,000 each? Like Eagle's.
