The Ford-PSA engine partnership could swell to include a new V8 diesel engine bound for the Range Rover and Jaguar XJ. According to Andrew Fraser, Ford powertrain applications manager, the 2.7-litre V6 TD, recently introduced in the Jag S-type, is a modular unit that can be expanded. ‘We are looking at V8 diesels but could go to 10 or even 12 cylinders – though there is a challenge for transmissions,’ he said.
Fraser admitted that a variety of PAG cars would benefit from bigger capacity diesels but conceded that there is untapped potential in the US.
