Breaking news - Westfield sold

Independent manufacturer Westfield has been sold - but it is to continue making cars.

The new owner, Potenza Sports Cars, plans to continue Westfield's traditions. But Potenza will also able be investing heavily in Westfield, with a plant to bring all the cars produced up to Euro IV emissions legislation.

West Midlands-based Westfield was founded in 1982 by owner Chris Smith, initially producing Lotus XI replicas. It has stayed in family ownership ever since, and Smith will continue at Westfield as 'acting technical consultant'.

In a statement, Smith said “Escalating costs of automotive development have made it difficult for Westfield to compete on a global level. Backed by the new investors and expertise Westfield will now have the opportunity to introduce new innovation and technology to the kit car and specialist car industry, enabling it to grow to its full potential.”

Westfield's new managing director will be Julian Turner, who has previous experience in engineering and manufacturing.
