Korean maker will spin off Picanto sister car as replacement for Amica

So successful is Kia's Picanto city car that it seems Korean parent Hyundai can't wait to spin off its own version.

These scoop shots, taken this week in Lapland, show that Hyundai is at an advanced stage of development with what looks like a second supermini, to sit below the Getz as a replacement for the Amica.

Introduced in 2000, the Amica is ripe for renewal. By the look of these shots, this car will be slightly shorter than the current one but much better packaged. Like the Picanto it'll be a five-door, four-seater and also share the car's hockey-stick shoulder line and tall side windows. It'll also have the Picanto's minimal front and rear overhangs, which should make parking it easy.

The next Amica's styling remains a mystery, disguised as it is by black cladding. However, the shape of the headlights suggests that it'll have a unusual bug-eyed appearance, which stands to give the new Aminca more character than the current one. Check out our gallery for more scoop pictures.
