Watch forthcoming four-door sportscar in action

Porsche has put out this video of the new Panamera in response to criticism of the looks of the new four-door.

The car has been attacked for looking too much like a generic Porsche design, so this professionally produced clip showing the new car during testing is meant to silence the critics.

Shot during winter testing in Norway and hot weather trials in California, the video includes footage of Panameras drifting through snow.

The cars are still partially disguised but the slim retractable rear spoiler is visible. The car's significant width and length are also obvious.

Porsche will release more images of the Panamera at the end of this month. The car will go on sale next year and will become Porsche's first hybrid, using an Audi-derived V6 petrol engine and an electric motor.

Re: Porsche Panamera in action

If I had the sort of money they will be asking for this, I'd buy the Aston Martin Rapide instead. Do Porsche think this isn't more of the same? Because it looks to me like a 5 door hatch back (hunchback) 911. I don't think the Porsche shield on the bonnet is going to be enough to make this car seem any better looking than it is. As with the Cayenne, I'm thoroughly unconvinced. In fact, I think they should ask Barack Obama to front the marketing campaign for this car because... "You can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig."

Re: Porsche Panamera in action

If you gave a bloke in a shed a Vauxhall Vectra and asked him to turn it in to a Porsche you'd get the Panamera. It's not moving on the design language of a modern Porsche forward. There's nothing wrong with a corporate look but this one is tired and long due an update.

For the whole range Porsche need to move forward as rivels are making viable alternatives. The only defence Porsche has is to buy over VW just so they stop producing some of those rivals!

Were you unaware that Porsche made the Cayenne?

Yes I was, and I've tried long and hard to forget it's existence.
