Currently reading: Peugeot's baby estate caught in the cold

It's not a massive load-lugger, just a slightly more practical alternative to the five-door hatch

Underneath the automotive anorak, this is the new Peugeot 207 SW, caught cold-weather testing in Finland. The new 207 estate shares its underpinnings with the Citroen C3. Like the standard 207, it will be available with the option of a glass roof or a standard tin roof. Expect it to look somewhat like a shrunken 407 SW, with wraparound-style rear glasshouse, but without that car's massive front overhang.

As you can see from the 207 SW's reasonably compact dimensions, it's not a massive load-lugger, just a slightly more practical alternative to the five-door hatch, like its predecessor. While the 206 hatch is to stay in production as a budget car, manufacture of the 206 SW in Europe has recently stopped. The new car is expected to go on sale at the end of 2007.

The Peugeot 207 hatchback is safely-played and as such lacks charm, verve and difference
